A Deco Stroll Through Chelsea
About the Program:
Join us for a Saturday stroll through the Art Deco treasures of Chelsea, nestled between Greenwich Village and the Garment Center. This stylish west side neighborhood holds a varied and often overlooked collection of Jazz Age gems — commercial lofts, residences, schools, and warehouses built in the late 1920s and 1930s that together tell the story of a neighborhood in full swing.
Architectural historian Matt Postal will trace Chelsea's history and development, including designs by Emery Roth, Ralph Walker, Horace Ginsbern, and Ely Jacques Kahn, alongside a few recent preservation success stories.
Highlights include:
From apartment houses and loft buildings to a stylish parking garage, Chelsea's Art Deco delights are waiting to be discovered.
