Join us in person at the Hot Club of New York for a curated experience exploring the dynamic recordings and striking record design of the Art Deco era. This special event blends music, history, and visual culture into an immersive celebration of the 1920s and 1930s.
The evening begins with a welcome and introduction to the rich history of the Hot Club of New York. Known for its intimate atmosphere and dedication to preserving the spirit of early jazz, the venue evokes the charm of a bygone era—where music was both a social ritual and an artistic revolution.
Our host, Matthew "Fat Cat” Rivera, will then dive into the evolution of jazz during the 20s and 30s, highlighting influential recordings, iconic artists, and record designs. The presentation will be enhanced with carefully selected audio examples and visual materials, offering a deeper appreciation of both the sound and aesthetic of the period.
Following the talk, the evening will transition into a relaxed wine reception where guests are invited to mingle while listening to additional recordings from the era.
About the Speaker
The Hot Club of New York is a jazz listening community run by Matthew "Fat Cat" Rivera, centered around a remarkable archive of over 10,000 original 78rpm shellac records. Drawing from this extensive collection, the evening’s presentation offers a rare opportunity to hear authentic recordings from the era while gaining insight into the artistry and cultural significance of early jazz and its visual identity.
