Join us in person or over Zoom for a captivating illustrated presentation by David Leopold, Creative Director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation, exploring the early career and influences of legendary caricaturist Al Hirschfeld.
Leopold brings audiences back to the dawn of the “Hirschfeld Century,” an extraordinary 82-year journey during which Hirschfeld not only captured but helped shape American popular culture through his celebrated depictions of Broadway, Hollywood, and the performing arts.
Through a rich visual experience, you’ll discover how Hirschfeld’s unmistakable line evolved, the impact of Art Deco on his style, and rarely seen works alongside his most iconic images. This is a rare opportunity to gain insider perspective from one of the leading experts on Hirschfeld’s life and legacy.

About the Speaker
David Leopold has spent more than three decades studying Hirschfeld’s work. Beginning in 1990, he organized the artist’s archive and worked closely with Hirschfeld for thirteen years, visiting his studio regularly. Leopold has curated exhibitions for major institutions including the Library of Congress, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, the Norman Rockwell Museum, and the Field Museum, as well as internationally at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Deutsches Filmmuseum.
