Celebrating World Art Deco Day: The Art Deco Moment: New York’s Transformative Year, 1931

About the Program:
What a magical year it was for Art Deco lovers everywhere, but especially for New Yorkers, when so many of New York's Deco icons opened their doors and Deco buildings spread far beyond Manhattan.
Join us in person or over Zoom when ADSNY VP Emeritus, Anthony W. Robins, gives a richly illustrated zoom talk on World Art Deco Day celebrating this year's 95th birthday of New York’s most celebrated Art Deco icons as well as many Art Deco buildings in all the boroughs!
1931 was a stellar year for Art Deco throughout New York City. Iconic Art Deco buildings that opened or were completed in 1931 include The Empire State Building, which opened 95 years ago on May 1, 1931; the Waldorf Astoria; 275 Madison Avenue; 80 Broad Street; Central Park West’s residential tower The Majestic; and the General Electric Building at 570 Lexington Avenue. But it was not only the icons that opened that year in all their Art Deco splendor; countless other buildings opened throughout the boroughs in 1931 and transformed New York City into a true Deco mecca.
As part of ADSNY's celebration of World Art Deco Day, the live event will be followed by a Q & A and a bubbly reception! Can't join in person? Attend in real time over Zoom or receive the recording to watch at your own convenience.
