The Magic of Lalique

About the Event:
The magic begins when you step inside the ethereal Maison d’Artiste. Spring is in the air. Enchantment surrounds. Beauty beckons. Early spring is the perfect time to celebrate the sublime artistry of Lalique. Lalique authority Nicholas Dawes will trace the history of the jeweler René Lalique, who opened his first Paris workshop 1885. By 1905 the shop had moved to Place Vendôme and begun featuring glasswork as well. Join us in the exquisite Townhouse and see how Lalique still dazzles well into the twenty-first century. A reception will follow Mr. Dawes’s presentation.
This is a members-only event and can accommodate only 25 people, so this will fill quickly.
About the Speaker:
Nicholas Dawes brings over forty years' experience in the antiques and fine art auction business. Since emigrating from England to New York in 1979, he has pursued his career here as an auctioneer, appraiser, author, lecturer, and antiques dealer. Dawes is a former Department Head and auctioneer at Phillips and at Sotheby’s in New York. He is considered this country’s leading authority on the work of René Lalique.
Dawes is the author of books on decorative arts, as well as scores of articles, and lectures internationally. He has been a faculty member of Parsons School of Design since 1984 and has taught at Columbia Business School and Bard Graduate Center.
