Through the Lens: Women Photographers of the Art Deco Era Video Event
About the Program:
Step into the groundbreaking era through the lens of trailblazing women photographers. During the 1920s, 30s, and 40s, photography was largely a male dominated profession, and women who did pursue a career in photography generally specialized in portraiture. But a remarkable group of pioneering women defied expectations and made their mark in the medium. In this richly illustrated Zoom talk, we’ll explore the powerful and varied work of pioneering photographers such as Therese Bonney, whose images captured sleek modern interiors and storefronts; Margaret Bourke-White, who documented massive industrial processes; and Dorothea Lange, whose poignant, unfogettable photographs gave a human face to the Great Depression.Together, their images reveal not only artistic innovation, but also the social, economic, and emotional realities of their time. Join us for a visually compelling journey into the lives, challenges, and lasting impact of the women who helped shape photographic history.
