Christie's Presents 1925 A Modern Vision

About the Program

Experience Ever Modern: Art Deco at 100, a panel at Christies, exploring the importance of Art Deco, its preservation and the lasting impact of the 1925 Exposition Internationale in Paris, which catapulted the movement onto the world stage.

The global celebration of the Art Deco Centennial continues in December when ADSNY holds a special evening for its members and friends featuring a panel discussion and preview of Christie's stellar new exhibition "1925 A Modern Vision."

We will see how masterworks by Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Jean Dupas transformed the salon of the Hôtel du Collectionneur, while the Paris showcase also marked a defining moment for Jean Dunand, whose lacquered wall panelling for the smoking room of the French Embassy pavilion inspired collectors and patrons alike. The rediscovery of the important Psyché Baigneuse dressing mirror from 1927 exemplifies his mastery of the ancient art of lacquer.

We will discover important and rare commissions by André Groult — including the exceptional shagreen bed in a visually impactful green stain (property from an Important Chicago Collection) — that echo the artist’s celebrated Chambre de Madame from the 1925 exhibition.

Attendees will have a private tour of the objects that will be part of this extraordinary auction following the talk. Attendance at this special panel discussion and private tour is limited so register today to secure your seat.

About the Panel:

Sonja Ganne, Chairwoman, Christie's Paris

Adriana Berenson, Dealer and Collector

Jared Goss, former curator at the MET, author and scholar

Ivan Shaw, Visuals Editor, The World of Interiors

The panel discussion will primarily focus on the undeniable importance of the 1925 Paris Exhibition, further developed with the evolution of generations of notable collectors over the past 100 years. Particular note will emphasize the conservation of these masterworks from the era.
