Art Deco at the NYPL Billy Rose Theatre Division Archives

About the Program
Join ADSNY as Broadway history comes alive in this visit to another incredible theatrical archive. See posters, photos, clippings, and other ephemera which document New York theatre of the 1920s and 1930s, as we are guided by the guardians of the collection.
The Billy Rose Theatre Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts is one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive research collections devoted to the theatre and the allied arts of film, radio, television, vaudeville, magic, and the circus. The Division's strength and uniqueness lie in its unparalleled collections of archives, scrapbooks, original designs and artwork, photographs, posters, programs, reviews, and scripts. The Division is also noted for its pioneering efforts to document live theater through the Theatre on Film and Tape (TOFT) Archive and for its Reserve Film and Video Collection of rare and important 16mm films and videos. The Division also provides access to an extraordinary array of traditional published books and journals as well as a circulating collection of books, scripts, DVDs, CDs, and more.
This past June, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts was awarded a 2025 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre by the Tony Awards Administration Committee.
The visit will be led by the Theatre Division's Assistant Curator Annemarie van Roessel, who has been a design historian for 30 years.
This event is limited to ADSNY members only.
