About the Event:
The Paris
Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels moderne opened exactly one hundred years ago today. It is therefore appropriate that this evening we come together at the magnificent Art Deco Temple Emanu-el on World Art Deco Day to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the passage of New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Law, which saved many of our precious Art Deco buildings. This landmark evening brings together important preservationists, architectural historians, journalists, and members of other preservation groups for the discussion
Beyond Architecture: The New New York, based on Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel’s newly published book. Speakers will include
Adam Gopnik, Paul Goldberger, Justin Davidson, Vishaan Chakrabarti and Lisa Switkin. The event will be moderated by Rea Hederman, Publisher, The New York Review of Books. Please note that open seating begins at 5:45. Program begins promptly at 6:30
