Art Deco South America: Argentine Reflections from the 1925 to 1937 Expositions

About the Event:

We’ve seen the influence the Paris exposition had on design and architecture in the US. Now we will see the Art Deco evolution in Argentina during the interwar period and its echoes in the field of design, architecture, urbanism, and landscaping. The presentation will also show the ongoing French Deco influence in the region strengthened by the Exposition Coloniale de 1931 and the Exposition Universelle de 1937. Our speaker, visiting from Argentina, is award winning author Fabio Grementieri, an architect specializing in Historic Preservation and Architectural History, with extensive practice in preservation and conservation projects of late19th and early 20th century heritage. This event will take place at the Consulate General of Argentina in New York.

About the Speaker

Fabio Grementieri is an architect specializing in Historic Preservation and Architectural History, with extensive practice in preservation and conservation projects of late19th and early 20th century heritage. Grementieri is an advisor to public and private institutions such as the Argentine Government, the city of Buenos Aires, UNESCO, and the World Monuments Fund, in addition to serving as a visiting professor and lecturer at American and European Universities and Institutes. Grementieri is the Director of the Preservation Program at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella and Member of the National Commission of Monuments of Argentina. He has published several books on Argentine Heritage and received the Henry Hope Reed Award from the Driehaus Foundation and the University of Notre Dame in 2009.
