1925 Paris Expo - The World Made Modern Video Event

About the Program:

The Art Deco Society of New York opens its Centennial celebration of Art Deco with a look at the 1925 Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes, or International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. The exposition brought the new approach to design that we now call Art Deco to the attention of a worldwide audience and led to its international dispersal. In 2025 the International Congress of Art Deco Societies will celebrate the centennial of the exposition by gathering in Paris for the 17th World Congress on Art Deco. Join the Art Deco Society of New York as we look back at the architecture and design showcased at this influential event.

About the Speaker: 

Kathleen Murphy Skolnik teaches art and architectural history at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and leads seminars on Art Deco design at the Newberry Library, a private research library also in Chicago. She is the co-author of The Art Deco Murals of Hildreth Meière and a contributor to the recently published Art Deco Chicago: Designing Modern America. Her articles have appeared in ADSNY's Art Deco New York journal and she currently serves on ADSNY's Advisory Board.
