Art Deco City: New York Postcards from the Leonard A. Lauder Collection Virtual Tour
Registration Starts January 1, 2025
About the Program:
Whether you live near or far, you have a special opportunity for a private virtual tour with Lilly Tuttle, curator of the Museum of the City of New York’s current exhibition: “Art Deco City: New York Postcards from the Leonard A. Lauder Collection - a highlight of our recent Autumn in NY Weekend.
Now you can join Lilly on a tour of this fascinating exhibition that illuminates the key role postcards played in transforming New York into an international capital during the 1920s and 1930s – when the bold new look of Art Deco heralded New York’s arrival as a cosmopolitan metropolis and a center of architecture, design, fashion, and culture on a par with the great European capitals.
You will see stunning mass-produced postcards that established Art Deco landmarks like the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Center as international icons that epitomize the elegance of Midtown Manhattan.
Lilly will also show us pieces from the museum’s archives of Art Deco objects, fashion, photography, drawings, and architectural models and describe her personal discoveries of seldom seen pieces, whose dazzling style defined modern New York.
By pairing these sought-after Deco gems with an array of images, historic artifacts, film footage, and hands-on interactive experiences, you'll see how the exhibition uncovers the Art Deco elements that shaped New York's image in the popular imagination.
Don't miss this special event to discover how more than an aesthetic, Art Deco was the look that sold our city to the world.
Can't join us at the time of the live Zoom event ? No problem! Those who register will receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation. When you sign up for the program you have the opportunity to watch, or rewatch, the recording at a time more convenient for you.
