Deco Treasures at The Met

About the Program:

Join Holly Phillips, Senior Collections Manager for Acquisitions, for an online talk presenting a selection of Watson Library’s Art Deco material featuring catalogs associated with the Paris 1925 World Exposition including Les Arts décoratifs modernes, Une ambassade française and Le pavillon de l'élégance. The presentation will also include rare trade catalogs published by manufacturers represented at the fairs such as Lalique, Ruhlman, Brandt and Sevres; as well as other Art Deco material including important texts on architecture, jewelry, interior design and American publishers’ bindings.

Can't join us at the time of the live Zoom event ? No problem! Those who register will receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation. When you sign up for the program you have the opportunity to watch, or rewatch, the recording at a time more convenient for you.

About the Speaker: 

Holly Phillips has worked in the Watson Library since 1995. She holds a BA in Art History from Barnard College, and an MA in Art History (specializing in nineteenth-century art) from Columbia University. Holly is responsible for acquiring rare research material and overseeing our gifts program. Over the years, Holly has built strong collections in the fine and decorative arts, often specializing in building in-depth collections of subjects, such as Art Deco trade catalogs, American publishers’ bindings, Judaica and rare Latin American material. Holly educates the public through her many essays in Watson’s blog, In Circulation, through on-site presentations and Library exhibitions, including the current exhibit, Decorated Paper: A Selection of Publications in Watson Library and In Full Bloom: Margaret Armstrong's Decorated Publishers' Bindings Revisited.
