Circling the Square

About the Program
The blocks bordering Madison Square offer many memorable and often overlooked Art Deco delights. With Matt Postal as our guide on this all-new Deco tour created especially for ADSNY, we’ll view a diverse group of late 1920s and 1930s designs, including striking commercial and residential structures by Harvey Wiley Corbett, Ely Jacques Kahn, and Horace Ginsbern. Highlights include the Madison Square Station Post Office, with neighborhood-themed frescoes by Kindred McLeary; the brightly-colored terracotta elevations of 261 Fifth Avenue; and Louis Shampan’s little-known 1201 Broadway. Join us on this late summer evening exploration of Deco delights.
