About the Event:

At its best and most collectible, Art Deco jewelry is a form of timeless wearable art, with an emphasis on strong design, technical brilliance, and skilled craftsmanship. During this very special event, however, we will discover how the origins of Art Deco jewelry assumed social and historical significance far beyond their physical expression.

The world was changing during the Jazz Age at an unprecedented pace—particularly for women, who experienced new post-war freedom, crossing gender lines, and breaking taboos. The intersection of this social evolution, coupled with rapid technological advances of the 1920s, created a moment of genuine originality and modernity.

Join Ben Macklowe, President of Macklowe Gallery, at a special members-only wine reception and talk at the Macklowe Gallery to learn more about this moment in jewelry history, and to discover rare and exceptional jewels by Mauboussin, Cartier, Tiffany & Co. and more.

Prior to our lively and informative talk we'll have a wine reception and opportunity to see on display one of the most important and comprehensive collections of early 20th Century Decorative Arts in the world, carefully selected for their artistic value, rarity and historic importance.

About the Presenter:

Ben Macklowe is the President and second-generation owner of the Macklowe Gallery, the world's premier dealer of museum-quality 20th century decorative arts. Over the years Macklowe has placed decorative works of art in major public, private and corporate collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, The Dallas Museum, and the Australian National Gallery, among others. In 1995, founders Lloyd and Barbara Macklowe were honored as Collectors of the Year by the Virginia Museum. Now under Ben's leadership with his wife Hillary, Macklowe Gallery has re-dedicated itself to educating and promoting the next generation of innovative collectors. Ben, recognized in the industry as a thought leader, lectures regularly at Christie's, Sotheby's and appraisal industry events. Together with the gallery's team of curatorial experts, Ben and Hillary have authored books on Art Nouveau sculpture and jewelry that have become standards in the field.
