About the Program:
It was a truly glamorous age, a progressive age and a busy age. It was the era of Art Deco when ocean liners highlighted the 1930s, an age of midnight departures, Champagne in salons, steamer trunks and the likes of Marlene Dietrich sailing off for a long summer in Europe.
New ocean liners were continuously created for routes around the world: trans-Atlantic, South America, Africa, and other far-off destinations transported by some of the biggest, fastest & most luxurious liners ever – such as the Rex, the Normandie & the Queen Mary.
So, as the whistles are sounding -- join Bill Miller, "Mr Ocean Liner," as he takes us down maritime memory lane.

About the Speaker:
Bill Miller, known as "Mr. Ocean Liner," is an international authority on ocean liners including the great Deco "floating palaces," of the 1920s and 30s as well as the current generation of "floating resorts". He has written over 100 books on passenger ships, from early steamers, immigrant ships and liners at war to the fabulous interiors of legendary ocean liners and their highly collectible artifacts. He is a popular guest speaker on cruise ships, having made hundreds of voyages and visited ports from Alaska to Antarctica. He has also hosted ocean liner events at Lincoln Center, been a curator at South Street Seaport, appeared in numerous television programs, and been the recipient of numerous awards.
