Telling the Art Deco Story of Jamaica Talk and Tour

About the Program:

A Queens crossroads with many memorable and often overlooked Art Deco buildings, Jamaica deserves our attention.

Join architectural historian Matt Postal for a two-part program in Jamaica, consisting of a richly-illustrated presentation on Art Deco design in greater Jamaica and environs, followed by a walking tour of the central shopping district that includes a setback office tower embellished with elaborate metalwork and poly-chrome panels by Rene Chambellan, the ornate J. Kurtz & Sons furniture store, and La Casina, an aluminum-clad nightclub once dubbed the “Show Place of Long Island.”

About the Guide:
Our guide, Matt Postal, is an architectural historian, specializing in 20th century architecture and the co-author of The Guide to NYC Landmarks.
