Telling the Art Deco Story of Staten Island
About the Program:
From the ferry terminal at St. George to Tottenville on the south shore, join architectural historian Matt Postal for a virtual exploration of Staten Island Deco in the 1930s.
In this richly illustrated Zoom presentation, discover the "forgotten" borough's varied Art Deco treasures, such as the Ambassador Arms, an ornate, terracotta-encrusted apartment house; the Bayley Seton Hospital complex; a Robert Moses pool and bathhouse; as well as New York's other Paramount, a shuttered gem in Stapleton designed by the prominent theater designers Rapp & Rapp - and so much more!
Also in the spotlight are memorable public murals sponsored by the WPA Art Program, including unsung works by the painters Frederick Charles Stahr and Axel Horn.
This event is free to residents of Staten Island. Note that you will need to provide your current address as a resident of the borough of Staten Island to attend this event at the free resident rate. If you are not a current resident, you will be sent an invoice at the non-resident rate.
