Trains, Planes, Automobiles & More:

Travel in the Jazz Age

About the Program:

Let’s get away from it all!

Planes, trains, automobiles, buses --all were among the latest transportation options available to travelers touring the USA the 1920s, 30s, and 40s. So, pack your bags and join us as we travel back in time in this richly illustrated virtual zoom presentation with speaker Kathleen Murphy Skolnik to experience legendary means of transportation and stunning Art Deco hubs.

On our tour we'll visit:

  • The Pan American Clipper and its grand Art Deco gateway terminals, like the Marine Terminal at LaGuardia
  • Streamlined trains and buses like the Burlington Zephyr and the Silversides Greyhound coach and the imposing train and bus stations that welcomed their passengers
  • Innovative automotive designs of the Art Deco era, such as the Chrysler Airfow and the Art Deco showrooms that displayed them, the parking garages that housed them, and the gas stations that kept them running.

We'll arrive and depart from stunning Art Deco venues such as Omaha's Union Station and Cincinnati's Union Terminal, pick up our Pierce-Arrow from Buffalo's 1928 showroom and travel on highways and bridges that echoed the sleek innovative designs of the vehicles of the Art Deco era, stopping to refuel at streamlined filling stations along the way.

So hop aboard and join us on this very special virtual tour across America by plane, train and automobile in the golden age of travel.

Can't join us at the time of the live event? No problem! Those who register will receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation. When you sign up for the program you have the opportunity to watch, or rewatch, the recording at a time more convenient for your schedule.
