About the Trip:

Join us on what is sure to be a memorable weekend exploration of the unsung Art Deco and Early Modernist treasures of Buffalo, NY!

Attendees will have one-of-a-kind experiences, including expert–led walking and motor coach excursions; guided tours of historic buildings and legendary homes; a cocktail cruise; special meals in period venues; and much more!

Thursday Evening, July 13th:

Optional Wings Meetup

Get together with your fellow trip members while enjoying Buffalo’s trademark chicken wings at the place where they originated, the famous Anchor Bar! (Attendee’s own cost.)

Friday, July 14th:

Buffalo’s Historic Downtown Masterpieces

A guided walk through Buffalo’s historic Downtown, including a tour of the magnificent City Hall — with a stop at its rooftop Observation Deck — and visits to the Industrial Bank Building, a Deco fire station, and a courthouse, as well as the Rand Building (considered a model for the Empire State Building), among other architectural marvels.

After a stroll up Film Row, lunch will be a family-style feast at the upstate classic, Dinosaur BBQ, housed in a former Universal Film Studios vault, complete with the original lettering on the façade.

Following our meal, we’ll see the Courier-Express Building, the Alleyway Theater (a converted Streamline Greyhound Bus terminal), and the famed Electric Tower, and also visit both Louis Sullivan’s landmark terra cotta Guaranty Building and the lobby of the Ellicott Square Building, before heading to the Pierce–Arrow Museum for a guided tour of its Frank Lloyd Wright filling station and collection of vintage 1920s and ’30s automobiles, including the Thomas Flyer, built in Buffalo and winner of the 1908 New York to Paris Automobile Race, which is currently there on special loan.

This will be followed by a cocktail cruise and dinner in a historic 1841 former warehouse.

Saturday, July 15th:

Bus Tour and Site Visits

The morning will start with an exclusive tour of Shea’s Buffalo Theater and its original Louis Comfort Tiffany interior, then we’ll depart of a day-long bus tour visiting an array of Buffalo landmarks, including three Frank Lloyd Wright buildings, Kleinhans Music Hall, and other select sites. The day will include both lunch and a guided tour at Wright’s Martin House Complex, as well as a tour of the city’s historic Central Terminal, an Art Deco masterpiece.

Dinner will be in a restored 1937 rail car located next to the former site of Wright’s Larkin Building.

Sunday, July 16th:
Bus Trip to FLW’s Graycliff

Our final excursion will be a morning bus trip to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Graycliff — also built for the Martin family, and nestled on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie — where we’ll have a guided tour of both the house and its lush gardens.

Upon the return to the hotel around 1 PM, our trip will be over, but registrants are encouraged to augment their stay in Buffalo with other local activities, such as attending a Buffalo Bisons baseball game at historic downtown Sahlen Field, traveling to Niagara Falls, visiting the Roycroft Complex in East Aurora, and/or enjoying a local sandwich favorite, beef on weck.

    Getting There

JetBlue, Delta, American, and United fly to Buffalo multiple times per day from all three NYC–area airports; non-stop flights are approximately one hour. Other alternatives include Amtrak (approximately 8 hours from Penn Station) and automobile (approximately 6–7 hours, depending on route).
