About the Event:

Join ADSNY and architectural historian Kathleen Murphy Skolnik for a unique and timely international virtual tour of fascinating funerary Art Deco designs — just in time for a special Halloween treat!

At its peak of popularity in the 1920s and 1930s, Art Deco affected just about every aspect of how we lived. What is often overlooked is that it also affected the way in which one was memorialized after death. Highlights of this one-of-a-kind web-based program will include

  • Monumental cemetery portals of Francisco Salamone in Argentina

  • An opulent Lalique-designed mausoleum in Havana

  • The headstone on the grave of René Lalique in Paris

  • Striking monumental World War I memorials in Europe, Australia, and the United States

  • Exotic Egyptian revival tombs

and so much more!

Sign up today to enjoy this virtual event that travels the globe to visit Deco deathly delights which are memorable examples of headstones, mausoleums, and memorials, featuring funerary applications of Art Deco aesthetics — especially on the tombs of those who wanted to go out with style. These monuments utilize Art Deco design features such as verticality, stepped back profiles, and stylized low relief sculpture.

This unique online illustrated talk is sure to fill quickly. Claim your spot today!

Even though this event is online, it will include a live PowerPoint — with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device — as well as a Q&A session with participants.
