What is Art Deco? Where did it come from? And how useful is the concept of style today? Join ADSNY for this delightful event where author and educator Michael Windover explores these fundamental questions.

This stellar online and recorded event will be a great introduction for those new to Art Deco as well as an in-depth refresher for those with preexisting knowledge of the style. 

The often broad definition of the term Art Deco—referring to a huge range of sources and cutting across medium and class lines—can sometimes hinder historical investigations. In this thought-provoking event, Michael Windover will explore whether these challenges outweigh the benefits the style moniker offers.

About the Speaker:

Michael Windover is Associate Professor and Head of Art & Architectural History at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is author of Art Deco: A Mode of Mobility (2012) and co-editor with Bridget Elliott of The Routledge Companion to Art Deco (2019).
