About the Program:
Join the Art Deco Society of New York and acclaimed architectural historian Matt Postal for an in-person spring stroll through the soaring towers of Downtown Manhattan! Space is limited and tickets for this in-demand walking tour are sure to go quickly.
New York City prospered during the 1920s, transforming the narrow streets of Lower Manhattan. On this in-person walking tour, Matt Postal will lead us through a varied collection of Art Deco designs, including memorable structures commissioned by major banks, insurance firms, and energy companies.
As we meander through downtown’s winding streets, we'll discuss the financial district's changing character and how such architectural gems, including the Cities Service Building and the American Stock Exchange, are currently being adapted to new uses.
Other highlights will include 1 Wall Street, the former home Irving Trust, as well as the former Insurance District on Maiden Lane, with buildings by Ely Jacques Kahn and Shreve Lamb & Harmon. We will also see Sloan & Robertson's unique 29 Broadway, which features an unusual outdoor foyer clad with mosaics, marble, and aluminum.
Cleaned and sanitized audio assistance devices will be provided for all attendees.
About the Guide:
Our guide, architectural historian Matt Postal, leads walking tours throughout New York City. Specializing in 19th and 20th century architecture, he teaches graduate courses at the New York School of Interior Design.

We look forward to having you join us for this in-person tour! By registering for this event you are agreeing to follow ADSNY's safety protocol. Anyone who does not comply will be asked to leave the event and their ticket will not be refunded. ADSNY’s COVID-19 guidelines apply to ALL attendees.
- VACCINATIONS: All attendees must be fully vaccinated and boosted. ADSNY will require confirmation of vaccination before the event
- FACE COVERINGS: Face masks are required for all attendees and ADSNY staff at all times. Face masks must completely cover the nose and mouth. Should you not have a mask that covers your nose and mouth one will be provided
- SOCIAL DISTANCING: Attendees must be respectful of each others personal space and distance themselves as much as possible
- REDUCED CAPACITY: Our walking tours are capped at a maximum of 25 registrants to aid in social distancing guidelines
- IF YOU ARE UNWELL: Stay home if you are feeling sick or symptomatic. If you have been in contact with someone with related symptoms or who has tested positive within the last 14 days also stay home
- COVID RISK: Though positivity rates are declining, an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. Those joining ADSNY'S in-person programming do so at their own risk to such exposure

We cannot accommodate any walk-ups for the tour, so please be sure to register in advance if you would like to attend.
Your ADSNY membership must be valid the date of the event to be able to take advantage of the member discount. If your membership expires between the time of event registration and the date of the event, you will be asked to renew your membership.

Please note:
- ADSNY does not mail event tickets. When you register, your name(s) and contact information is added to the event’s list of attendees
- ADSNY does not permit animals at events unless they are a registered service animal
- All ADSNY programs are non-smoking events. Smoking will not be permitted
- All ADSNY events are rain or shine
The tour will be approximately two hours. Participants should be prepared to walk or stand for the entire time and be outside without access to climate-controlled spaces for most of the tour.
