About the Program:
Scan Art Deco literature, and you’re likely to find the names of many well-known designers––almost exclusively male. Far less recognized are the many talented women designers of the era who have been forgotten, overlooked, or overshadowed by a more celebrated spouse.
Historian Kathleen Murphy Skolnik returns for the highly anticipated second installment of this series on the women of Art Deco design. In this recorded video presentation––which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home at a time that best fits your schedule––we continue to examine the work of these unsung heroines, from the whimsical table linens of Marguerita Mergentime, to the silver designs of Helen Hughes Dulany and Elsa Tennhardt, to the modernistic ceramics of Greta Marks and Eva Zeisel, to the photographs of Parisian storefronts by Therese Bonney.

About the Speaker:
Kathleen Murphy Skolnik teaches art and architectural history at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois and leads seminars on Art Deco design at the Newberry Library. She is the co-author of The Art Deco Murals of Hildreth Meière and currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Art Deco Society of New York.
