Art Deco 101: American Sculpture, Ceramics, and Glass Video Event

Join ADSNY as we continue our Art Deco 101 series of online illustrated talks that give an in-depth look at Art Deco architecture and design, in addition to the culture of the 1920s and 30s.

In this recorded video presentation––which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home at a time that best fits your schedule––educator and Art Deco expert, Kathleen Murphy Skolnik, returns to explore the dynamic sculpture, ceramics, and glass produced in America during the Art Deco era.

Throughout the engaging program, Skolnik shows the captivating work of notable designers such as:

  • Sculptors Paul Manship, Lee Lawrie, and Gwen Lux, whose work can be found at Rockefeller Center
  • Ceramicist Victor Schreckengost, who designed the iconic Jazz Bowl
  • Waylande Gregory, who created the first monumental ceramic sculptures of modern times and helped elevate ceramics from an applied to a fine art
  • The Steuben glass designers who targeted an upscale audience with their creative Art Deco works that brought the firm into the modern age
  • The designers of the Ruba Rombic line, aimed at the average consumer
In addition, we also survey many striking sculptures that graced the grounds of the World’s Fairs of the 1930s!

This recorded video event includes the original PowerPoint––with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device.
