About the Program:

Join the Art Deco Society of New York and author Brian D. Hoefling for a witty dive into the history, science, and mixology of the most American of creations, the cocktail!

Nothing recalls the Jazz Age like a good cocktail. And, while at the moment, we can’t be together in-person to meet over cocktails, we can all enjoy and expand our skills and knowledge with this engaging and informative event. So, join us as we explore the importance of the cocktail to Roaring 20s New York City and follow along with three how-to demonstrations throughout the event to master and enjoy some of the period’s delicious libations in your own home.

The evening will look at the history and development of the cocktail, as Hoefling explores the origins of many famous Jazz Age cocktails that became part of the era's lore and fame. We'll also discover how cocktail culture fits within the greater American ethos during Prohibition and the reign of the speakeasy.

If you'd like to follow Hoefling’s demonstrations and taste the cocktails for yourself throughout the event click here for the list of cocktails and their ingredients.

This special program is the perfect to toast to the upcoming June release of Hoefling’s latest publication The Cocktail Seminars, which is a delightful, thorough guide for all the freshly minted home bartenders who want to learn both the “how” and “why” of their favorite drinks.

Even though this event is online, it will include a live PowerPoint––with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device––as well as a live cocktail-making demonstration and a moderated Q&A session with participants.

Can't join us at the time of the live event? No problem! When you register for the live program you are guaranteed to receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation, which you can watch at a time most convenient for you.

About the Speaker:

Brian D. Hoefling is the founder of the Herzog Cocktail School, which has been educating the public on cocktail history and preparation since 2012. He is the author of Distilled Knowledge: The Science Behind Drinking’s Greatest Myths, Legends, and Unanswered Questions and Classic Cocktails, both by Abbeville Press.
