About the Program:
Our Telling the Art Deco Stories of our Neighborhood's online series continues so now you can virtually visit New York's wonderful Art Deco enclaves with the Art Deco Society of New York––from anywhere.
Between Greenwich Village and the Garment Center, this stylish west side neighborhood has a varied and often overlooked collection of Art Deco gems, including memorable structures from the late 1920s and 1930s that were built as commercial lofts, residences, schools, warehouses, and even a women’s prison.
Architectural historian Matt Postal’s illustrated talk will trace the area’s history and development, highlighting jazz age designs by such noted figures as Emery Roth and Horace Ginsbern, as well as a few recent preservation success stories.
Even though this tour is online, it will include a live PowerPoint—with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device—as well as a moderated Q&A session with participants.
Can't join us at the time of the live event? No problem! When you register for the live program you are guaranteed to receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation, which you can watch at a time most convenient for you.
About the Guide:
Our guide, architectural historian Matt Postal, leads walking tours throughout New York City. Specializing in 19th and 20th century architecture, he teaches graduate courses at the New York School of Interior Design.
