Radiant Suns and Rising Dragons: Japanese Art Deco Video Event

About the Program:

The Art Deco Society of New York’s series of web-based illustrated talks inspired by our Destination DecoTM travel program continues with an exciting virtual visit to explore the often under-appreciated, yet stunning, Art Deco heritage of Japan.

In this recorded video presentation––which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home at a time that best fits your schedule––professor, author, and curator, Kendall Brown, takes us on an in-depth exploration of Japanese Art Deco as an expression of national power.

By examining unique Japanese Deco works of the interwar era, we discover the power of the Deco style to convey Japan’s emerging identity as a global power. This recorded web-based program surveys architecture, arts, and mass media, analyzing art forms as different as cigarette packaging and a tower dedicated to connecting “heaven and earth” to convey Japan’s growing militaristic fervor.

You are sure to enjoy this fascinating international exploration into an often overlooked Deco past. Get your ticket today!

This recorded video event includes the original PowerPoint––with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device.
