Deco Manileño: Art Deco in Manila Video Event

About the Program:

The Art Deco Society of New York’s series of web-based illustrated talks inspired by our Destination DecoTM travel program continues with this recording of our exciting virtual “visit” to Manila––a remarkable Southeast Asian city whose architecture dramatically changed when the Art Deco aesthetic spread to Manila while a U.S. territory in the early twentieth century.

In this recorded video presentation—which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home at a time that best fits your schedule—we visit Manila's remarkably rich, though largely unknown, collection of Deco architecture, including theaters, schools, sport facilities, funerary mausoleums, and so much more!

Our host, Ivan Man Dy, author and expert in the region’s unique Art Deco past, explores the origins, history, architecture, and culture that shaped the early modern lifestyle in this tropical, Far-eastern city from the 1930's until after the end of the Second World War.

He introduces us to the Filipino architects––many of whom attended Western universities––who embraced the Art Deco style and introduced it to the Philippine capital, where it flourished and thrived.

This exciting international exploration is not-to-be-missed. Sign up today!

This recorded video event includes the original PowerPoint—with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device.
