About the Program:

Even if you think you know Manhattan's Art Deco icons, this not-to-be-missed online tour gives you an opportunity to see details up-close, like never before!

In this web-based Art Deco extravaganza, Art Deco expert and tour guide extraordinaire, Tony Robins, will lead us on an in-depth virtual tour of Midtown Manhattan’s major boulevard of Deco skyscrapers, which showcases some of the city’s most famous monuments.

Our unique online vantage point offers the ability to observe hard-to-see architectural details of Raymond Hood’s red-and-white-striped Daily News Building; the Chanin Building with its Rene Chambellan-designed abstract ornamentation; and the peerless Chrysler Building, the city’s (and the world’s) most famous Art Deco skyscraper.

As we make our way across Manhattan in this online event, we will also see:

  • Tudor City, built just before Art Deco swept away the notion of borrowing from Europe’s past to design America’s future
  • The often-overlooked block between First and Second Avenues with three surprising Deco creations
  • 275 Madison Avenue
  • Three remarkable Raymond Hood skyscrapers
  • A fabulous interior by Ely Jacques Kahn

…and more!

Tony Robins created this itinerary in the early 1980s as part of ADSNY’s very first organized Art Deco tour. This reprise will be the first time we have offered this tour in many years and Deco fans won’t want to miss it! Claim your space today!

Even though this event is online, it will include a live PowerPoint—with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device––as well as a Q&A session with participants.

Can't join us at the time of the live event? No problem! Those who register will receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation. When you sign up for the program you have the opportunity to watch, or rewatch, the recording at a time more convenient for your schedule.
