About the Program:

The Art Deco Society of New York’s series of web-based illustrated talks inspired by our Destination DecoTM travel program continues with an exciting virtual “visit” to the Windy City with Chicago-based educator and author Kathleen Murphy Skolnik.

You will not want to miss this online presentation exploring why connoisseurs of Art Deco architecture cannot help but be drawn to Chicago!

The presentation will highlight how the city’s soaring Art Deco skyscrapers boast cliff-like setbacks and machine-age imagery that epitomize the glamour, exuberance, and optimism of the era, while also illustrating that Chicago Art Deco is not limited to tall commercial downtown towers. Through this visually stunning presentation we will see how the style also extends to residences, churches, theaters, and small commercial buildings.

Claim your ticket now to join us for this engaging tour of Chicago’s iconic Art Deco designs as well as less well known examples that demonstrate the wide application of Art Deco to a variety of buildings types throughout the city and the tremendous diversity in its visual expression.

Even though this event is online, it will include a live PowerPoint—with wonderful images that you will be able to see directly on your computer screen, tablet, or mobile device––as well as a Q&A session with participants.

This talk is at 1:00 p.m. (EDT), which makes it open to Deco enthusiasts everywhere. However, if you aren't able to join us at the time of the live program, no problem! Those who sign up for the event will receive a recording of the entire program a few days after the live presentation––which you can watch at a time more convenient for you.
